what we do

HOW ARE DONATIONS SPENT?

Croston Together is 100% volunteer run, all donations and money raised goes to worthy community causes that have applied for funding. Big or small we are here to support.

Croston Knitwits

The KnitWits began by requesting a small grant, which would enable them to buy wool for the White Wool Mystery Mission - WWMM. This involved inviting various members of the village community to ‘get knitting’ in order to produce woollen creations which would be placed in and around St. Michael’s church on its re-opening after extensive renovations.

During this project, members of Croston Park Nursing Home were invited to join in with the knitting and this had a transformative effect on their lives; one lady suddenly engaging with others after never venturing from her room before.

The work has continued and the most recent success was on Remembrance Day when beautiful knitted red poppies adorned the war memorial and other key places around the village. The link with Croston Park continues.

They have also started up a knit and natter group with the residents of Croston Park on the last Monday of each month. The ladies entertain with tea and biscuits while giving tips on knitting and ageing gracefully.

If you’d like to join the then come along to one of their meetings or give Kay (07513 819394) a ring.

Croston Archive

We’re delighted to have helped Croston Archive recently. We provided a grant to help purchase a new laptop to help catalogue all the items in the archive. Kath Almond and Anne Sandwell who run the archive want to make everything easily accessible to anyone who wants to research anything in relation to Croston.

The archive will eventually be able to be viewed in the Belfry Room in the Old School on Heritage Days. If anyone needs any further information please contact Kath or Anne directly. They will be more than happy to help people find what they are searching for.

Croston Lego Masters

Croston Lego Masters was set up in late 2017 after Charlie Quinn from Croston wanted to play Lego with all of his friends and his mum would not let him have them all over at his house!

With a little help from his parents Charlie set up a Facebook Page and got in contact with Croston Together who gave him a Grant of £200. With a little shopping around and help from Croston villagers he accrued enough Lego to be able to run the group on a larger scale. The group meets at Croston Community Centre once every other month and builds to a theme.

Earlier this year we received a grant from the Parish Council which enabled us to part fund a Lego STEM event which went down a storm with the children with an age range of 5-13 years and even got a mention in the local press.

We will be running a further Croston Lego Masters STEM event in February and another Master Build in April.

Please ask to join our Croston Lego Master Builders Facebook Page if you would be interested in your child or children attending a future event.

Croston table tennis club

Croston Together was approached by the table tennis club for some grant funding. At the moment the club is limited to over-50’s. However, they now wish to open the club up to junior members. In order to enable this to happen we have provided the funding for 2 new tables. This will provide more opportunities for our young people to take part in worthwhile sporting activities in the village.

Recreation ground development

A sub-committee has been established to support the Parish Council in turning this piece of land in to a community resource that the village can be really proud of. We’re pleased to report that after the hard work of lots of people in the Croston Community we reached our fund-raising target.

The work took place over the early months of 2019 and we now have a great place to exercise, play and socialise and a fantastic asset for our community.

On going tree planting, landscaping and maintenance will ensure this space is well kept and maintained over the years to come.

Croston-Azay twinning association

The twinning association lost all of its gazebos in the 2015 floods. These are needed for their annual Bastille Day Fair and other community events. Croston Together has replaced these gazebos which will now be freely available for other organisations to use.

Get in touch if you would like to borrow gazebos for your event.
